Plenty of Things to Keep You Busy in Grand Cayman

newsletter

Grand Cayman is a place that many people decide to visit because they want to treat themselves to a vacation that is relaxing and fun, surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches, the crisp water of the sea, and the glorious sun. While all of this is truly great, if you are someone who can only lounge around for so long, don't worry, you will find plenty of fun activities that can help stave off boredom. There are many great local attractions which can help you occupy your time.

When you tire of the beach, you might want to take some time to check out the local attractions the area has to offer its guests. One of the more popular tourists sites for people of all ages is the Cayman Turtle Farm, which is a commercial site that has thousands of Green Sea Turtles -- some just a few inches wide and some big enough that a grown man could take a ride. This farm is unique, as there is not another one like it in the world. A new attraction has opened recently just across the street from the Turtle Farm which showcases a live dolphin show. Bring your cameras to catch the jumping dolphins in mid air.

You can really delve into the history of the area at the National Museum, a great way to bring that educational touch to your vacation, or spend your time enjoying beautiful flowers in the Botanic Park. On the east side of the island is the Queen Elizabeth Botanical Gardens with the extremely rare blue Iguana. They have dozens of this exceptionally rare creature, and you have got to see these creatures that look like they came out of an old movie.

Of course, there are plenty of water activities as well, since it is so abundant here. You can enjoy almost any type of water sport you can think of, including some really impressive scuba diving sites. You can really get up close and personal with the underwater coral, and native marine life, if you so wish.

Many of the local resorts also have water sporting activities, held all over the island. You could enjoy windsurfing, kayaking in the massive ocean, sailing, canoeing, or even snorkeling. If you have always wanted to try water sports, but never have had the opportunity to do so, now is your chance! Dive in and have fun!

If you have the kids along with you for your Grand Cayman vacation, you will be happy to know that there are lots of activities suitable for them as well. They may enjoy working on the treasure puzzles, riding on the beach, local arts and crafts, SNUBA diving, bowling, going to Stingray City by boat, or some of the other family oriented activities found all around the island.

And of course, for those of us who just can't pass by the chance to shop, there are many great places at which to do so, that you won't want to miss. The nice thing is that most of the items are greatly discounted, meaning that you can buy even more with your shopping budget than you had originally planned. The downtown area of George Town is the place to shop -- but you might want to check and count the number of cruise ships in dock. If you see more than 3 ships, might want to wait until tomorrow.

One of my favorite non-beach activities is visiting the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Park. The park is on the east side of the island on the cut through between Rum Point and the east end. The park is known for its Blue Iguanas, which are found only in Grand Cayman and no where else in the world. While strolling through the park you will see all sorts of flowers and plants. It is a great way to spend a morning. The park opens at 9am.
